Artist Statement

I was born in Osaka, Japan, in a house made of wood, stone, bamboo and paper.

At age 25, I moved to New York City and since then, I have made work involving my memories of childhood in Japan as well as reflecting on the cultural differences and complexities between Eastern and Western lives.

Like a Haiku my work attempts to communicate with people with simplicity and directness. It is a continuous search filtered through time and distance.
